Regional Cup Preview Empty Regional Cup Preview

Sun Sep 20 2015, 19:53
Its been relatively quiet since the end of last season, but with the regional cup now just a day away, the excitement is back as Haxball returns in Premierhax. I give my view and predictions for the teams and some players worth keeping an eye on.

Group A

North
Der Twigg
Renbeaudach
CM Punk

With only three players, they will be relying on each other just to show up, but all three are active and established members of the community and should be around for the tournament. They have plenty of experience between them and all play a similar style on the field, Ren will most likely play in defence, and his deep playmaking style will suit his team mates. Twigg and Punk excel in quick passing; Punk was the heart in Guard dogs midfield last season and was the architect for most of Stefan's goals.

Veridct: Not enough strength in depth, group stages.

Yorkshire
chuckdog (c)
mc smiley
Donny Corleone
CamSampbell
Corn
Zizou

A good squad with quality in every position, Yorkshire can do well in this tournament. mc smiley has had a good season and he will lead the line upfront, he knows where the back of the net it is but Yorkshire will hope he will be scoring in the oppositions goal rather then their own. Zizou is one to watch, did not play last season but is a quality goalkeeper and can offer his services anywhere on the pitch. CamSambell and Donny have had plenty of minutes this season and Corn has played well too. chuckdog the captain, he doesn't play a great deal these days, however his experience is key and will have big calls to make.

Verdict: Should qualify but will be underdogs in the semi finals.

Midlands
Ghost (c)
Lee
gred
ogre
Sugar Ray
EXO
abacus

A great squad here and should be favourites to win the group. ogre is an established international and much will be expected of him, but there is quality elsewhere too in gred and Lee, the latter recently called up to team UK. gred's goals per game ratio last season was one of the best and he is a possible starter, Lee is also a man in form and is worth keeping an eye on. Myself and abacus have improved since last season and EXO too. Ghost is the captain and brings a great deal of experience to the squad, he was a solid addition to Socrates last season and offers goals from midfield.

Verdict: Can win group and go all the way, finalists.

Group B

London
mlfaijati (c)
Wildey
The Doctor
Splash
Speaks

A squad with great potential. Mlfaijati was one of the best players last season and will captain the Londoners, he should form a formidable partnership with two of the inform players in the league (Splash & Doctor). Wildey is a new name in the league but settled in well at guard dogs last season, scoring 3 goals. Speaks has great potential and can help hold leads.

Verdict: Technically such a talented side, but unfortunate to have been drawn with two of the favourites and will have to do something special to get out of the group.

South
Mad
aero
Gervinho10
Tanzim
Beninho

Arguably the strongest side in the tournament, what with Mad and aeRo upfront, the duo scored 38 goals between them last season. With no Caccapupu, They will have a new defender behind them. Gervinho got three clean sheets last season and is a reliable option in goal. Tanzim is a man on form and his deep playmaking and quick passing will suit Mad and aeRo. Beninho has goals in him and suits a counter attacking style which might not be a first approach for this team, however we could possibly see a new side to his game playing with world class players.

Verdict: If their goalkeeper can play at the high tempo Mad and aeRo are use to they can win the tournament.

Rest Of The World
Stefan
Yawn
Caccapupu
Diesel
Remove Kebab
hazard - blue army
?

Caccapupu will be the architect in defence, and his chemistry with yawn is worth pointing out, the two played together in haxleague for a while and it is a partnership we could see blossom. Stefan will start upfront and just missed out on top scorer last season, he is arguably the league's deadliest finisher and will flourish playing with Caccapupu. Diesel will offer strength in depth and can play in several positions, hazard - blue army is one to watch; he has been on the forums for a while but we are yet to see him play. He has much to prove as he fights for a place in season 2. Then there is remove kebab, Facepalm

Verdict: Semi finals.
